Introduction
This product line provides the easiest and most dependable solutions for printing to a centralized production printer from a non-compatible host or Ethernet network. As a stand-alone product, the Express eliminates installation hassles and time-consuming spooling involved with PC-based print servers. All Express products are plug and play protocol converters, allowing you to focus on your business, not on your connectivity solution. Compatible with many METACODE packages. PCL or Postscript to METACODE packages are also available from Spur. See the Host Compatibility Matrix
There are two basic Express Environments:
1. The most common is the one-to-one direct connect market, connecting a centralized printer to a previously incompatible stand-alone host. Usually, this is a non-IBM mid range or mainframe computer (e.g. Burroughs, Tandem, DEC, Wang, etc.) which is not on a network.
2. Ethernet network to a centralized printer. Spur has two Ethernet solutions, The Deluxe and Express Ethernet. To help define which is best, the Express Ethernet may be preferable in the following environments:
- DEC LAT connectivity needed.
- Support for additional parallel and/or two serial connections needed.
- No spooling or queue management needed, or modular solution is desired.
- Only one centralized printer needed in the foreseeable future.
